Lonnie Gwillim Celebrates 20 Years with Gwillim Trucking
Gwillim Trucking held a small celebration On January 9, 2009 for one of its long-time employees. Lonnie Gwillim celebrated his 20th year with the company.
“Lonnie is a great drive,: Gwillim Trucking co-owner Mickey Gwillim said. “He’s the kind of person who never says no if you ask him to do something.”
Lonnie, who started with the company in January 1989, remembers his first route. “I drove a 1979 Conventional Kenworth,” Gwillim said. “I think I took a tanker load to the Prairie Farms plant in Decatur.”
Gwillim is one of several family members who work with the company. Co-owners Scott and Mickey are Lonnie’s cousins. George Gwillim started the company in 1936, and in 1942 sold the business to Nelson Gwillim, Lonnie’s uncle and Scott and Mickey’s grandfather.
As for the future, Lonnie had no idea how long he would continue to drive. “I’ll keep doing it as long as I’m healthy and enjoy driving,” he said.
